Essential Oil-Based Skincare Recipes
Here are some essential oil-based skincare recipes for better and glowing skin.
1. Lavender Grapefruit Facial Scrub
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup blended oats
- 5 drops lavender
- 5 drops grapefruit
Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a small bowl. Use fingertips to massage lightly into face, avoiding eyes. Rinse with warm water. This scrub also doubles as a mask which can be applied in a thin layer and left to dry for about 10 minutes.
2. Soothing Chamomile Massage Oil
- 4 Tbs. jojoba oil
- 1 drop lavender oil
- 1 drop German chamomile oil
- 1 drop rose oil
- 3 drops geranium oil
Mix all ingredients in a small saucer. Use small amounts at a time to massage into the skin. Feel the tension melt away as relaxation takes over your entire body. Use this essential oil-based massage oil on yourself or a friend.
3. Sensual Bath Soak
- 1 Tablespoon jojoba oil
- 2 drops lavender
- 1 drop sandalwood
- 1 drop ylang ylang
Mix all ingredients in small bowl. Pour into a warm bath and add about a cup of Epsom salts. Mix into the bathwater and settle in for a good, long, aromatic and healing soak.
4. Foot Healing Remedy for Dry, Cracked Heels
- 1/8 cup jojoba or another carrier oil
- 7 drops lavender oil
- 3 drops ylang ylang oil
- 2 drops peppermint oil
Natural pedicure time! Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Rub into clean, freshly scrubbed feet. All the better if you have started with a good warm foot soak and applied a pumice stone to remove the first layer of dead skin from heels, toes, and other problem areas. The best time for use is before bed, so that the oils can soak in overnight for healing, soothing relief while your body is at rest.
5. Facial Treatment for Fine Lines
To reduce fine lines of the face, apply a pea-sized amount of argan oil with one drop coffee oil added. If you prefer your skin treatment to be scented, you can also add a drop of german chamomile and a drop of orange oil. Blend this mixture into problem areas such as jowls and crow’s feet. Avoid getting too close to eyes.
6. Natural Hand Sanitizer Recipe Using Essential Oils
- 10 drops peppermint oil
- 20 drops tea tree oil
- 4 oz. aloe vera gel
- 2 drops scented oil of your preference – rose and neroli can be a good combination
Add to a small squeeze bottle – great to recycle if you’ve purchased skin sanitizer before.
7. “Odor-Eater” Shoe Spray
Into a 4-oz. spray bottle add the following:
- 10 drops cedar wood oil
- 10 drops grapefruit oil
- 10 drops orange oil
- 1 teaspoon witch hazel
Combine all ingredients into bottle. Top with water until the bottle is 3/4 of the way full and shake gently to mix. Spray inside of shoes, then let dry completely before wearing again.
8. Silky Smooth All-Over Exfoliant for the Bath
- 1 teaspoon jojoba carrier oil
- 1/4 cup Himalayan pink salt
- 12 drops of your favorite non-irritating essential oil blend such as lavender, rose, geranium, chamomile, orange, or neroli.
In a half-cup container add 1 teaspoon jojoba carrier oil and combine with the Himalayan salt and essential oil mix of your choice (12 drops total). Use as a bath scrub to slough away dead skin, leaving your whole body feeling dewy-soft and smooth. When finished scrubbing, the remaining exfoliant will dissolve in the warm bath water to make a soothing and rejuvenating, pleasantly scented mineral soak.

11. Almond Facial Scrub Recipe
- 4 teaspoons finely ground almonds
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons sweet almond oil
Combine all ingredients to form a paste. Add to a jar with lid. To use, smooth over facial skin, avoiding eye area. Gently massage in. You may also let this mixture soak into your face for about ten minutes. Remove using warm water and a washcloth.
DISCLAIMER:
Please consult with an expert/your physician before using essential oils with children less than 4 years of age.
If you are especially susceptible to allergies or sensitivities, you may wish to test your essential oils on a small patch of skin such as your wrist, to determine if they will be well tolerated.
If you find the scent of a certain oil to be overwhelming when used in a room diffuser, you can either use fewer drops, or use only in combination with a calming or grounding such as lavender. Some essential oils may prove too overpowering for extremely sensitive individuals — in which case, discontinue use.
